Sports & Runner Injuries

Working as a massage therapist for athletes at a well-known Connecticut university, Stephen knows what is needed to help an athlete recover from a sports injury. Whether it’s a knee or ankle injury you sustained while out for a run, or you’ve pulled a muscle while sliding into home plate, Stephen can help you recover and get you back to doing what you love to do. Stephen’s training includes 15 months of massage school, providing him enhanced strength and skill for sports massage.

Stephen’s primary goal is to help:

  • Restore your loss of function
  • Decrease your pain
  • Increase flexibility and strength
  • Teach you techniques to prevent future injuries
  • Return you to performance level

Balance

Physical therapy not only helps to improve strength and flexibility, but it also greatly helps an injured patient regain their sense of balance, which in turn, helps prevent them from falling and further injuring themselves. A person’s sense of balance greatly decreases as a person ages, meaning that the risk of a injury due to a fall increases substantially. This fear of falling can lead a person to stop doing the things they used to enjoy doing, and have a very negative impact, both physically and mentally, on their quality of life.

Redwood Physical Therapy is here to work directly with you to create a program that will help strengthen your posture and regain your sense of balance. This will allow you to live a happy, more fulfilled and independent life!

Common Treatments

These are some of the most common treatments that Redwood Physical Therapy will use to help relieve your pain and strengthen your body:

  • Patient education for correct body posture, movement, and other factors that may cause pain or worsen the symptoms
  • Strong Manual therapy skills to help stretch, loosen, and move target areas to help relieve pain
  • Specific exercises that will strengthen muscles, help improve flexibility, and mobility
  • Stimulation through the use of heat, cold, or electric stimulation
